Oh SNAP!

Hi, it's Lynne here from Her Craftiness and I would love to show you "SNAP"!!!! I hear you back there saying "Snap?" . . . . well, it's a super easy project to make a little bag/purse to carry crafting supplies, quilting supplies, crayons for the little ones, make-up - hmmmmm ok, you get the idea that you can put anything you want to put in them!

Supplies:
  • 2 coordinating fat quarters (a fat quarter measures 18 x 22 inches)
  • carpenter's tape measure
  • quilt batting
  • fusible interfacing
  • scrap fabric either a 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 inch for the decorative triangle aka prairie point
Tutorial Step-by-Step Directions:
  • determine what size bag you would like to make (I have even made one to carry my notebook when we go camping just remember to add 2 layers of quilt batting for any computer devices)
  • today, we are going to make a crayon bag for a church bazaar finished size measuring an 8 x 8 inch bag
  • cut 1 piece 16 x 8 inches for the top of your bag
  • cut 1 piece 16 x 8 inches for the lining of your bag
  • cut 1 piece 16 x 8 inches of batting for your bag
  • cut 1 piece 4 x 16 inches for the top band
  • fuse 1 piece 2 x 16 inches of fusible interfacing to the band on the wrong side
  • machine quilt layers of fabric with batting sandwiched between the two wrong sides - no fancy quilting is required but just enough to hold the layers together - for my project, I machine stippled with variegated quilting thread
  • fold in half and stitch the front to the back using a 3/8-inch seam allowance

  • I press the seam open but that's my own personal preference
  • sew across the bottom of your bag and turn right-side out

  • press and fold your fabric square first in half and then in half again
  • pin the raw edge to the center of the one side top of your bag
  • stitch your top band together beginning at the bottom and stitch up approximately 1/2 - inch
  • start stitching again leaving a 1-inch opening to the end of the strip to form a ring or oval shape

  • pin wrong side of bag to the right side of the bag to attach the top band
  • pin prairie point to the center of right side front of bag
  • attach band to bag stitching a 3/8-inch seam allowance
  • turn to right side and top-stitch band onto front of your bag
  • TIP; my sewing machine has a removable arm for stitching cuffs which makes this super easy to attach
  • now, to make this SNAP - cut 2 pieces of a carpenter's tape measure, each measuring half the width rounding the corners

  • slide the first piece through the opening that was left with how you had stitch leaving the opening and slide to the front with the curved numbers facing towards the front of the bag
  • slide the second piece through the opening centering in the back with the curved numbers facing towards the front of the bag
  • now comes the fun part - when you open/close your cute little bag, it actually snaps and holds close to store your precious items

Thanks for stopping by today - I'm making these for my friend and side-kick, Rosie's Church Bazaar in various sizes which all of these took an afternoon to make - now, that's what I call a "snap" to make!

I hope your enjoyed today's project too. If you have a questions or suggestions, please leave it in the comments. Also, you can join up to our Facebook group: Scrapbook Blessings Club for more fun, games, inspiration, tips and techniques. Thank you for stopping by and have a blessed day!

Building Block Graduation Card

Hello, everyone! Melissa here on to share a "building block" style card with you. I made this one graduation themed, since there are a ton of graduations going on right now. Hope you enjoy this card, and are inspired to try it out yourself. Here is the tutorial I followed from Split Coast Stampers. To make it easier, I will give you all the measurements, here. It looks harder than it is, I promise. Start with a piece of cardstock in your desired color that is 5.5 x 10.5. Put the 10.5 inch side along the top of your score board or paper trimmer, and score at 3.5 inches and 7 inches. Fold the first score line in a mountain fold, and the second in a valley fold. You should end up with a "z" fold card. The next part can get a bit tricky, so make sure you watch the video to fully understand what I am about to explain. On the back side of the "valley" fold, take a ruler and pencil and mark these measurements: 3/8 1 3/8 1 5/8 2 5/8 2 7/8 3 7/8 ...
