Home made Saturday Home decor item

Barbara here with a mixed media project for you on this Homemade Saturday post.
Welcome to all my scrappy and crafty friends. Hope you find some inspiration here to try a mixed media piece for your own home.
My Tip - Read about different mediums and learn about their properties in response to water especially.  Read about gel medium, mod podge and whipped spackle, different kinds of paints such as distress paints and acrylic paints, and different kinds of ink such as distress inks and pigment inks.

Here is a photo of my completed project :

Recipe

You can use so many different things to make texture on your background.
These are some of the ones I used on this item.
colored tissue paper
burlap
old book pages
masking tape
drywall tape
canvas
cheesecloth
stencils and whipped spackle or gel medium

Before adding texture paint one or two layers of gesso on your chipboard piece or canvas which allows your textured items to stick better.

Next, after the gesso is completely dry begin adding items for texture and/or color.
I used blue tissue paper, some old book paper, on the first layer.
Adhere this with mod podge.
And for the next layer use your more cloth like items such as I used burlap, canvas, cheese cloth and drywall tape(which has texture).
Use a layer of mod podge on top of each layer and be sure your edges are mostly stuck down. It is ok if some are not to give you more texture.

Next I added acrylic paint by stamping with bubble wrap which I painted randomly with blue, green and beige paint. Before the paint dries use a spray bottle and spray with water and use a sponge or your fingers to spread the paint around. ( unless you want to keep the polka dot look you get from the bubble wrap stamping.

Next I used whipped spackle and stencils to add more texture.

Then after giving the spackle some time to partially dry, I used some perfect pearls powder to the circle stencils. I used gold mist and a paint brush to color the stars.
I used glitter paint  to add some sparkle to the bottom part of the piece.l
I edged some of the piece with purple distress paint. I then sprayed some water on the purple ink and spread it some around the edges.

Then you begin to add your foreground items. I used a set of stickers that was butterflies and gears that I found at my local hobby store. I attached these items with a strong solvent glue such as Helmar 450 or Beacon 3 in 1.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and you will get out your "messy stuff" and make something beautiful for your own home or for a gift.
My daughter snatched this one right up as soon as she saw it and plans to put it in her office.

Thanks for joining me today. As always comments and questions are welcome.

BARBARA

Hope you have a blessed day and thanks for stopping by,

Building Block Graduation Card

Hello, everyone! Melissa here on to share a "building block" style card with you. I made this one graduation themed, since there are a ton of graduations going on right now. Hope you enjoy this card, and are inspired to try it out yourself. Here is the tutorial I followed from Split Coast Stampers. To make it easier, I will give you all the measurements, here. It looks harder than it is, I promise. Start with a piece of cardstock in your desired color that is 5.5 x 10.5. Put the 10.5 inch side along the top of your score board or paper trimmer, and score at 3.5 inches and 7 inches. Fold the first score line in a mountain fold, and the second in a valley fold. You should end up with a "z" fold card. The next part can get a bit tricky, so make sure you watch the video to fully understand what I am about to explain. On the back side of the "valley" fold, take a ruler and pencil and mark these measurements: 3/8 1 3/8 1 5/8 2 5/8 2 7/8 3 7/8
