Cutting Fabric with the Silhouette

Hello, Friends!  Today I'm planning on cutting fabric with my Silhouette Cameo.  I've been meaning to do something like this for 3 years!

Design on gown created using fusible fabric

Here's What You'll Need:
  • Fabric - I bought 1/4 of a yard of a pink cotton print for $1.21 (I have a LOT leftover)
  • Wonder Under or Heat 'N Bond - I bought a package of 2 yards for $2.99 (lots of this leftover as well)
  • Something to Put the Fusible Fabric On - I'm using a baby's gown
  • Cutting Machine or Scissors - I'm using a Silhouette Cameo
  • Iron
Baby gown, fabric and Wonder Under

Step 1:
Wash and dry the fabric.  Since I purchased cotton, I didn't want it to shrink after being applied.

Step 2:
Using scissors, I cut a rectangle of fabric and Wonder Under for my project.  In all, I cut less than    8" x 10".

Fabric after Wonder Under ironed onto wrong side for 5 seconds
Step 3:
Iron the rough side of the Wonder Under to the wrong side of the fabric for 5 seconds with a hot, dry iron.  Set aside.

Step 4:
Decide what you're going to cut.  I decided on the name "LUCY" and a few little butterflies.  I cut my letters at a height of 2.5" each.

Image of my mat before cutting.  I used a new needle and
used the recommended cut settings for fabric.
Step 5:
Place fabric side up on your mat and cut with a new needle.  Mine had been used on paper projects and was probably too dull to cut fabric.

Step 6:
Remove cut out images and letters.  Remove the paper backing from the fabric.  (This step worried me as it seemed it should stay with the fabric.  But, removing is the correct step.)

After cutting fabric with Silhouette Cameo.
Step 7:
Lay the cut out images onto your project (my baby's gown).  When satisfied, place a damp cloth over and iron for 15 seconds on the wool setting.

All done!  Can't wait to see this on my granddaughter!

Step 8:
All done!  Admire and enjoy.

This turned out to be pretty simple and I will definitely be cutting fabric with my Silhouette in the future.

I hope your enjoyed today's project too. If you have a questions or suggestions, please leave it in the comments. Also, you can join up to our Facebook group: Scrapbook Blessings Club for more fun, games, inspiration, tips and techniques. Thank you for stopping by and have a blessed day!
