The Son

Author Unknown A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had Everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Viet Nam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, "Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art." The young man held out his package. "I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this." The father op...

An Unspoken Bible

Author Unknown His name is Bill. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans and no shoes. This was literally is wardrobe for his entire four years of college. He is brilliant. Kind of esoteric and very, very bright. He became a Christian recently while attending college. Across the street from the campus is a well-dressed, very conservative church. One day Bill decides to go there. He walks in with no shoes, jeans, his T-shirt, and wild hair. The service has already started and So Bill starts down the aisle looking for a seat. The church is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By now people are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says anything. Bill gets closer and closer and closer to the pulpit and, when he realizes there are no seats, he just squats down right on the carpet. (Although perfectly acceptable behavior at a college fellowship, trust me, this had never happened in this church before! By now the people are really uptight, and...

A Simple Prayer

By Peggy Porter My son Gilbert was eight years old and had been in Cub Scouts only a short time. During one of his meetings he was handed a sheet of paper, a block of wood and four tires and told to return home and give all to"dad." That was not an easy task for Gilbert to do. Dad was not receptive to doing things with his son. But Gilbert tried. Dad read the paper and scoffed at the idea of making a pine wood derby car with his young, eager son. The block of wood remained untouched as the weeks passed. Finally, mom stepped in to see if I could figure this all out. The project began. Having no carpentry skills, I decided it would be best if I simply read the directions and let Gilbert do the work. And he did. I read aloud the measurements, the rules of what we could do and what we couldn't do. Within days his block of wood was turning into a pinewood derby car.A little lopsided, but looking great (at least through the eyes of mom). Gilbert had not seen any of the other kid...

The Guest Minister

AFTER A FEW OF THE USUAL SUNDAY EVENING HYMNS, THE CHURCH'S PASTOR SLOWLY STOOD UP, WALKED OVER TO THE PULPIT AND, BEFORE HE GAVE HIS SERMON FOR THE EVENING, HE BRIEFLY INTRODUCED A GUEST MINISTER WHO WAS IN THE SERVICE THAT EVENING.    IN THE INTRODUCTION, THE PASTOR TOLD THE CONGREGATION THAT THE GUEST MINISTER WAS ONE OF HIS DEAREST CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND THAT HE WANTED HIM TO HAVE A FEW MOMENTS TO GREET THE CHURCH AND SHARE WHATEVER HE FELT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE SERVICE..    WITH THAT, AN ELDERLY MAN STEPPED UP TO THE PULPIT AND BEGAN TO SPEAK. 'A FATHER, HIS SON, AND A FRIEND OF HIS SON WERE SAILING OFF THE PACIFIC COAST ,' HE BEGAN. 'WHEN A FAST APPROACHING STORM BLOCKED ANY ATTEMPT TO GET BACK TO THE SHORE.      THE WAVES WERE SO HIGH, THAT EVEN THOUGH THE FATHER WAS AN EXPERIENCED SAILOR, HE COULD NOT KEEP THE BOAT UPRIGHT AND THE THREE WERE SWEPT INTO THE OCEAN AS THE BOAT CAPSIZED.'     THE OLD MAN HESITATED FOR A MOMENT, MAKI...

Saying hello

Boy oh boy, I have been a busy bee. The weather got nice and life went into fast motion. Work, family, church, vacations, birthday parties, baseball games. I can go on and on!!! On the weight toss front, I was able to gain 10 pounds in one week (camping trip and s'mores galore). It was sooooo easy a caveman can do it, lol !!!!! I've got on plan a tiny bit and lost 4 lbs in the last two weeks but have a way to go. One question???? I am 70lbs, okay 60 now ;) and I tried on some new bathing suits. Why do bathing suits make any size woman look bad?!?!? They are evil!!!! I am still not swimming this summer, maybe next summer!!! Miss all my blog land friends! Here is a good story from my step dad for you :o) Keeper *************** I grew up in the 40's/50's with practical parents. A mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a name for it... A father who was happier g...

How To Stop A Church Gossip

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business.. Several members did not approve of her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence. She made a mistake, however, when she accused Ray, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's Only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told Ray (and several others) that every one seeing it there WOULD KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING ! Ray, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing.. Later that evening, Ray quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house .... Walked home ... And left it there all night. (You gotta love Ray!)

In Rememberance...Thank You

Thank you for your dedication and sacrifice. Thank you for your sons, husbands, and brothers. Thank you for the cost you all have paid for my and my family's freedom. Thank You!!! THE SOLDIER (This song was written for Memorial Day back in 1985.)

Out of the mouth of babes...

I needed a giggle today and here are some of the cute kiddie funnies (thanks you my friend, Heather)... Six-year old Angie, and her four-year old brother, Joel, were sitting together in church. Joel giggled, sang and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had had enough. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church." "Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked. Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers." One Sunday in a Midwest City , a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle. Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out. ....Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little boy called loudly to the congregation, "Pray for me! Pray for me!" (out of the mouths of babes)The preacher was w...

The Cab Ride

I love short stories... here's one that my mom sent me: So I walked to the door and knocked. "Just a minute", answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90 s stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware. "Would you carry my bag out to the car?", she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It's nothing", I told her. "I just try to treat my passenger...

The Nail

Laurie Glass Who am I? With no special purpose, traveling upward, unsure of my destination. Where am I? Steep hill appears. Jeers permeate the air, abominable stench pervades eerie summit. Who is that woman? Why is she so burdened, forlorn? Who is the One, beaten, bruised, bearing a cross, gasping for breathe, being mocked, ridiculed, with thorn-filled crown, bloodshot eyes exuding compassion, scarcely able to endure? What’s happening? I’m moving toward an open hand! Strike! Strike! Strike! Pierce faultless flesh, crimson spurts forth, covers me, drips to the ground - red pool of redemption. Who am I? One who attaches innocence to a cross, holds merciful Savior in place as He fulfills prophesies foretold, provides pardon for sinful human race. Who am I? Scar provider of blessed Son, resurrected Prince of Peace, who resides in celestial paradise and sits at His Father’s right hand

Answer me this...God Songs?

I am a praise and worshipper. I used to lead praise and worship at my old church, and music is very central in my walk with the Lord. Throughout various points in my life, God gives me a song, and in some cases two or three, that ministers to my life, my heart and my spirit man. It always comes at just that perfect moment when I need it the most. Some songs I have sang and know growing up, and some are brand new for the first time. I love these "God Songs". It doesn't matter if it is fast or slow, I'm usually crying and worshipping at the same time, lol. The Holy Spirit rises up in me and my situation, and it's like "Yes Lord... right on, your here with me." If you've been reading for a while, you'll know my current giant is my weight. I have been overweight my whole life, but it wasn't until I had my last baby, that God showed me how I needed to make changes in my life, not for me but for my babies. I was never afraid of death or dying. I re...
